About the conference

The Conference on Optics, Atoms, and Laser Applications (KOALA) is a student-lead conference with the goal of helping current honours, masters, and PhD students build confidence presenting their research in a supportive conference atmosphere. We are affiliated with Optica, the international society dedicated to optics, lasers, and related fields.

KOALA 2022 is being hosted by the Optica Students Adelaide, the student chapter at the University of Adelaide. Our goal is to bring together students from Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand currently conducting research in any field of optics and light applications.

The conference is designed to allow students to discuss their research whilst providing them with a chance to network with their peers who are working in various universities across a variety of fields. Our aim is that students gain a fresh perspective as well as the opportunity to learn about exciting research being conducted. Students will also get the chance to develop valuable communication skills through presenting their research to their peers working in a variety of fields. These skills may help you at the AIP congress/ANZCOP conference the week after KOALA!
